6 Vintage 1950s Italian Hand Painted Plates Art Pottery Signed Retro Mid Century. 6 Very rare and outstanding vintage Italian pottery dining plates. Produced in the 1950s, these are very skilfully hand painted with idyllic scenes of Mediterranean staple foods - ham, cured sausage, cheese, fish & bread, eggs... The stunning colours, typical of the era, must have been applied onto some kind of'resist' to create the mottled effect in the glaze. Plates like these were often used as wall plaques but these can definitely be used as functional items too.

Each plate is signed on the front by the artist which I can't fully read but it is something like "Aniti" or "Ante" depending on which one you look at! Five of the back of the plates are hand signed "FOREIGN" which means they were produced for export only. And one is signed Italy on back (one with ham & wine).

This one the signature looks slightly different but I can't read it either. CONDITION: One has small nibble on edge (see next to last photo) but the other 5 are great condition with no chips or crack. They look like unused condition. SIZE: 21cm diam x 2.5cm high.
