This is a stunning original vintage genuine deep carved Bakelite bangle bracelet. This stunning piece has some of the most beautiful Bakelite I have ever seen. It has a rare bright cherry red color carved with a bamboo look and style. You will seldom see this type of piece as they are extremely rare.
The unusual color is one of the most desired and hard to find in any kind of Bakelite pieces. This piece is just stunning!!!I have a huge collection of vintage Bakelite that I collected for 20 years starting about 30 years ago. The ones I'll be listing are some of my most unusual and valuable pieces.
ANY WHITE SPOTS ARE GLARE FROM THE CAMERA NOT DAMAGE AND THE PIECE ATTRACTS DUST SO SOME MAY SHOW IN THE PHOTOS, BUT IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!! AS WITH ALL BAKELITE THERE COULD BE LIGHT SURFACE MARKS.
The piece is very special with rounded edges and is thicker in the center. It has a very vintage deco look and feel to it and is flat on the back for easy fun wearing. I have tested this piece on the inside with semi-chrome and it definately tests a bright positive yellow for bakelite. It has no seams and has all the properties of genuine bakelite, it has a nice vintage patina and I guarantee it is a genuine vintage original bakelite piece. The bracelet is just over 1/4 inch wide.
It is very beautiful, and screams 50's & 60's. The perfect piece to go with or complete your collection. I can see no chips, or cracks or scratches.
Any scratches are hard to see and I did my best to show the piece in the many close up photos. What you see is what you really get!!! Please note colors in the photos may be ever so slightly brighter than the actual item. This lovely piece is very colorful, shiny and a delight to the eye. He publicly announced Bakelite in 1909 and planned to license other companies to manufacture it.
But outside manufacturers made too many errors, so in 1910 he started the General Bakelite Company (later called the Bakelite Corporation) to manufacture thermosetting plastic. At first Bakelite was used for industrial products, but in 1927 the Bakelite patent on phenol-formaldehyde resin expired, and other manufacturers rushed to open plants.Competition forced down the price of Bakelite and made production of inexpensive consumer products possible. Plastics became affordable substitutes for more expensive traditional materials.
Molded plastic required less hand labor and was just what the machine age needed. Competition also stimulated the introduction of new plastics in a variety of colors. Soon these cast resins were being used to make costume jewelry, toys, chess pieces, and many other products.
The Bakelite Corporation was a leader in convincing manufacturers to use plastic to beautify products. It worked with industrial designers, who in turn embraced plastics and applied them in the design of everything from telephones and radios to kitchen equipment, vanity cases, and jewelry. Bakelite was the material of a thousand uses.
And during the Depression of the 1930s, the cheerful colors, whimsical design, and low cost of many Bakelite products were just what was needed. Bakelite, along with other plastics, was celebrated in magazine articles and books. It was a material that could be transformed into marvels of beauty that spoke to modern man in the language of the twentieth century, the language of invention and synthesis. It was a modern miracle that expressed the beauty of the new machine age and heralded the age of plastics.Bakelite entered millions of homes in the 1920s and 1930s, in the form of radios, which had exploded in popularity. Bakelite Corporation advertisements told consumers that Bakelite and modern design would help move the country forward during the Depression. He then retired to Florida, where he lived until he died in 1944. THIS PIECE IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THIS ERA AND WOULD BE THE CENTER PIECE OF ALMOST ANY COLLECTOR'S COLLECTION!!
