Vintage BAKELITE'OFF TO SCHOOL' Articulated Rabbit Pin with Pivoting Arm
Mid-1940s Bakelite Rabbit pin that I believe is known as "Off To School". This articulated pin features a rabbit carrying his ABC book in his pivoting arm. The design has wonderful movement as you can almost see this anthropomorphic rabbit running to school with his ears tucked back and his arm in motion. The rabbit is carved and handpainted.
The bakelite is a butterscotch color with a red stain. It has a wonderful patina from many years of aging. The pin measures 3 tall. The bakelite is approximately 1/4 thick.
The clasp is riveted into the bakelite back. The pivoting arm is attached with a brass post.
