DP225 - This is the cheerful Davar Ketchup Pixie. NO staining - seems they are hard to find without staining as the ketchup stained these pieces real bad.
Most likely this one never had the condiment in it! She has red hair to match the writing on the jar. Davar pixies are a little more confusing to the new collector than the Holt Howard or Lefton pixies. They made each condiment jar with a straight haired pixie and a floppy haired pixie. The straight haired pixie's jar had block style writing; the floppy haired pixie had script writing.
Since the pixie in this listing has straight hair, she has the right bottom as the condiment name is written in block style. Another interesting thing about Davar is that the block style jars do not have the Davar stamp on them. This pixie is shown in the. Holt-Howard Collectibles and Other Related Ceramicwares of the 50s & 60. Reference book by Walt Dworkin.
The quality of Davar and Lefton pixies was not as good as Holt Howard so you will see mfg flaws on Davar pieces. To dry the davar pixie head, they laid it down vertical so you will always see kiln marks on the back of their ears, this one it isn't bad at all and you can hardly see any. Check out my other items.
