New old stock "International Love Heart" unframed/unmounted textile by Alexander Girard for Herman Miller. It says "Love" in nineteen different languages. Girard's "International Love Heart" was made for a very brief period and retired, never to be produced again. It is generally considered unavailable and difficult to find. This came from a former Herman Miller employee who never used it and kept it in storage since new.
The fabric is a heavy canvas-like cotton and it was never hemmed on the edges. The dimensions are 15.5" x 15.5" approximately. The symbol of love is a well-known motif in the design world of Alexander Girard, who created myriad variations of the heart shape in his graphic works and textile patterns. In 1967, Alexander Girard further developed the idea of the International Love Heart in his design of a textile that used the same distinctive letters, repeating them in a never-ending love pattern.
