Antique Mid Century Modern Expressionist Oil Painting, Man & Cat Stanphill
This is a striking and well done Antique Mid Century Modern Expressionist Portrait Oil or Acrylic Painting on canvas, by Fountain Valley, California modernist painter John Stanphill. Not much biographical information is available on this artist, but perhaps you know more about him or his work? This painting depicts a dour looking young man and a wide eyed Egyptian looking cat.
Behind the figures are ornate orange columns and dimly lit corridors. The beautiful orange and blue tones of this piece really make this lovely work stand out in any room it's in. Approximately 27 3/4 x 33 5/8 inches including frame.
Actual artwork is approximately 22 x 28 inches. Good condition for age, with one small dimple in the upper left of the canvas. Original period frame has light scuffing and edge wear.The artwork is loosely mounted in the frame and may need additional hinges to keep in secured in place.
