RARE Amazing Antique Mid Century Modern Abstract Wood Sculpture, Ellis Watkins
This is a scarce and masterfully carved RARE Amazing Antique Mid Century Modern Abstract Wood Sculpture, by mid-century California modernist sculptor Ellis Watkins. This piece depicts a biomorphic and naturalistic abstraction, reminiscent of Henry Moore and Jean Arp. This piece approximately dates to the late 1960's.
There is not much biographical information on this artist, however, Watkins was known to occasionally exhibit her works at Ruth Carlson Gallery in Mendocino, California. Engraved: "Ellis W" on the lower edge of the verso. Approximately 12 1/4 inches tall x 16 inches wide x 8 inches deep. Good condition for age, with a few mild scratches to the surface of the sculpture please see photos.
Original sculptures by Ellis Watkins are exceedingly rare, and there have only been two other examples ever offered for sale since the creation of the Internet.
