Edmundo Calderon was one of the Mexican Cubist artists of the mid century period and his works are extremely scarce.
He was only active from the late fifties to the mid sixties and his visions are archetypes of mid century cubism. This oil painting is marvelous and this work is one of Calderon's few surviving works that feature people and is not a pure abstract. It's amazing to see that even here, his cubist style carries over into the horse, the woman and the clown. From the tilt of the horse's head to the poses each assume we see this geometric symmetry that is simply gorgeous to look at! Some paint on the frame.
