This is a well-made and beautiful RARE Vintage Mid Century Modern Japanese Brutalist Pottery Sculpture, by noted Japanese - American Claremont, California modernist Takao Tomono (1935 -). This work depicts an abstract and modern Brutalist design, with both Japanese and American MCM influences. The artist told me that the title of this work was: Escalator.

The glaze of this teapot is robust and roughly hewn, displaying a traditional Wabi Sabi effect. This work is signed: "Takao" on the base and was acquired directly from the estate of the artist.

Likely dating to the 1960's - 1970's. Approximately 14 inches long x 7 5/8 inches tall x 4 1/4 inches wide. The sale of this work will include an original 1960's promotional flyer by the artist as an assertion and representative certificate of authenticity.
