This is a very cool and unique Vintage Mid Century Modern Polynesian TIKI Exotica Wood Magazine Rack, likely dating to the 1950's - 1960's. This piece is completely hand made, and meticulously detailed.

This item depicts the profiles of two fearsome Tikis, one on each side, and is embossed with a star-like floral design which has been lightly hammered into the wood, all throughout this piece. On the edges of this item, an abstracted and cubistic lizard design is visible. This magazine rack is comprised of some type of tropical hardwood, but I cannot accurately identify which one.

Perhaps you recognize what type of wood this is? Approximately 19 3/4 inches wide x 9 1/2 inches deep x 11 inches tall. Good condition for decades of age and use, with some mild scuffing, scratches, and edge wear throughout please see photos.

This item is a one-of-one, and not some assembly line Witco B. Whoever made this was deeply inspired by the Mid-Century Tiki culture of the time, a talented craftsman, and was likely an active participant in the burgeoning Southern California Tike Bar scene.

Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles, California. You will not see another one.
